Dearest readers, this week I am only a few days late. It looks like we very much are still recovering, but we are recovering. I spent last weekend at a wonderful fashion convention, and it did get me thinking about clothes.
The Power of the Mind
Do any of you remember the unmasking of the dybbuk box phenomenon? This was also covered by the Newkirks, when they conducted a series of experiments and even gave a dybbuk box a CAT scan (). In this series of experiments and their examinations, several investigators concluded a few things. First, the dybbuk box was totally and 100% made up. Second, weird things still happened around them.
This was attributed to the power of the mind and the imagination of thousands of people all focused on one object. The Newkirks also conducted a number of experiments (like the haunted ramen experiment) to see if someone could purposefully haunt an object. But that raised a very interesting question. Could someone un-haunt an object as well?
Moving to a Natural Conclusion
In a now famous (or infamous) experiment as explained by the Newkirks (if someone remembers this experiment’s runner, please let me know so I can update this post), it was found that it was very possible to un-haunt a dybbuk box. You just had to be nice to it. The power of the mind is quite extraordinary.
But, naturally, that gets me thinking. How could I use this to my advantage? How could my dear readers use it to their advantage?
Embracing Tropes for Profit
Maybe this is reaching on my part. But, I see no reason to be humble when it comes to theories. If an object or a location can be haunted, why not a person? And taken to that logical conclusion, why should we not go about haunting ourselves? Well, that’s only if you want to have an increase of paranormal activity around you. But, I’m certain that some of you would be interested in at least a little experiment.
So how could we theoretically utilize this same power? I honestly believe it’s at this point that you can probably harness the imagination of others around you by playing into established lore. And I’m not necessarily talking about walking around in all black and wearing a pointy hat.
Sometimes all it takes is an accessory, or a bit of a mysterious air about you. I also won’t pretend I have the best ideas when it comes to the aesthetics of others. No doubt many will also feel it is very dangerous to be open about the occult these days.
So I wonder if som enchanted (or haunted) jewelry to capture the imagination of people might also work. I do make use of sigils on occasion. And this might be a good reason to construct one.
If you were to use the power of human imagination for yourself, what would you do with it?
